The Hatcher brothers will be inducted into the USA Hockey Hall of Fame due to their contributions to the hockey game. Each played in more than 1,000 NHL games and also played in international competitions representing the USA. During the 1992-93 season, Kevin Hatcher made history by becoming the seventh defenseman in the NHL to score more than 30 goals in a season, with a total of 34.
In 1999 Derian Hatcher became the first American captain of a Stanley Cup champion while playing with the Stars and defeating the Sabres. “We would so often get the question, ‘Do you think you’ll ever have the opportunity to play on the same team together?’ ”, Kevin commented. “I would most often say, ‘More than likely not.’ … I was wrong there. We played a couple years together in Dallas. It was such a great opportunity.”
“Growing up in the Detroit area, we’re very fortunate to have such good, competitive amateur hockey. You gotta say the climate had something to do with it. We had a park right down the road that had ice during the wintertime,” Kevin added.
Derian Hatcher played a total 16 NHL seasons with the North Stars, Stars, Wings and Flyers for a total of 1,045 NHL games and 80 goals, 251 assists and 331 points. On the other hand, Kevin played 17 seasons in the National Hockey League with the Capitals, Stars, Penguins, Rangers and Hurricanes for a total of 1,157 games, 227 goals, 450 assists and 677 points.
